"Let's celebrate with wine after the final! Beer is for losers" |
French Men: Did you see Jeremy Stravius' 100 back? The French now have two legitimate contenders in this event. The 400 Freestyle relay was also extremely strong outside of Alain Bernard. Fabien Gilot had the fastest performance on the relay outside of Magnussen. Yannick Agnel also seems to be bouncing back well from his disappointing 400 free.
US Women: US Women could legitimately sweep the stroke 100s at this meet with Vollmer already #1 in the fly, Soni likely to take the breaststroke and Coughlin looking very strong in the 100 back. They gave the favored Dutch a huge scare in the 4x100 relay. Even Kukors' bronze is a nice bounce back from last summer
Australian Men: It's hard to leave them off here after their relay performance. They backed that up tonight by grabbing two medals in the 50 fly. Their meet sets up well with Magnussen's 100 free yet to come.
Danish Women: Did you really think I could leave them off? It's not every Worlds that Denmark gets a relay in the final, which they did yesterday in the 4x100. Lotte Friis looked great in the 400 going 4:04 and qualified 1st for the 1500 final. Rikke Møller Pedersen making a final is a nice bonus for the Danes. They've been slowly inching up to challenge Sweden for Scandinavian dominance
What swims have surprised you? What teams are looking good? Sound off in the comments.
New Zealand is swimming surprisingly well, with 2 finalists so far, probably at least one more with Kean in the 200.
ReplyDeleteThe South African 4 free relay looked incredible. The finish reminds me of Bubolz, Northwestern medley relays...where's the finish?
ReplyDeleteAnd they managed to get Moore into the 100 free, where he should final.
ReplyDeleteYeah if Schoeman was still fit to swim a 100 free South Africa would have undoubtedly medalled.
